ECM Old_and_New_Masters_Edition

A box-set anthology series which brings together historically-significant albums from ECM’s back catalogue, the Old & New Masters Edition was introduced in 2008 with Keith Jarrett’s “Setting Standards”, revisiting the now-legendary 1983 Power Station sessions which initiated Jarrett’s new approach to the music of the Great American Songbook.

“Setting Standards” also set the standard for the boxed set reissues to follow, each of them accompanied by extensive liner notes and rare archive photos. The edition is directed both to collectors and to newcomers to the music, making exceptional recordings widely available once more. A number of the box sets mark the first appearance on CD of some or all of the material – as was the case, for instance, with Arild Andersen’s “Green In Blue” and Steve Kuhn’s “Life’s Backward Glances”. Terje Rypdal’s “Odyssey In Studio & In Concert”, meanwhile, includes – in addition to the classic “Odyssey”double-album – a previously unreleased collaboration with the Swedish Radio Jazz Group.

Newest releases in the series: Jack DeJohnette’s “Special Edition” with a rotating cast of fiery soloists, Charles Lloyd’s “Quartets” featuring all of his Oslo recordings with Bobo Stenson, and a 6-CD Paul Motian box tracing the beginning of his career as bandleader and unique jazz composer.

Further Old & New Masters boxes are in preparation.
