Remembering Pinter´s "Silence"

News that Harold Pinter has, deservedly, won the Nobel Prize for Literature, prompts us to draw your attention to Pinter’s playlet „Silence“ set to music by Michael Mantler back in 1976. The recording features the vocals of Robert Wyatt and the late Kevin Coyne and the keyboards of Carla Bley. Mantler’s setting is still available on a WATT cd which pairs it with another musical-literary highlight, a 1973 recording - „No answer“, based on Samuel Beckett’s „How it is“. The cd thus features the writings of two Nobel Prize winners! „No answer“ encorporates a tremendous vocal performance by Jack Bruce, currently in the news as a member of the re-formed Cream, and beautiful trumpet from the late Don Cherry. In brief, and for many reasons, this is an album worth hearing again. Until the end of November ECM offers this double cd at the price of one.
