Arvo Pärt and Trio Mediaeval storm U.S. Billboard Chart

In the busiest season of the year, recordings by Arvo Pärt and the Trio Mediaeval have lodged themselves in the higher reaches of Billboard Classical Traditional Chart, where their near neighbours are André Rieu, Hillary Hahn, Cecilia Bartoli and Roger Waters.

Pärt’s disc has Alexei Lubimov as soloist with the SWR Symphony Orchestra in a powerful performance of „Lamentate“, plus the Hilliard Ensemble singing a tender prayer for piece, „Da Pacem Domine“.

One-time Hilliard students, the Trio Mediaeval perform 12th and 13th century music from England and France and the „Missa Lumen de Lumine“ by Korean contemporary composer Sungji Hong.

The Pärt is at no. 7 in the Billboard Chart, the Trio Mediaeval at no. 10. We think this is the first time ECM has had two discs simultaneously in the charts’ Top Ten (but wouldn’t guarantee it).

The Trio Mediaeval are currently winding up a highly successful American Tour. They are performing in Philadelphia on December 9, in New York on December 10 and in Washington DC on December 11. In March 2006 the Trio returns to the U.S. for more concerts. For more details consult the tour pages.
