Christmas Lists, Part 3

Enthusiasm for ECM’s 2005 programme continues to be reflected in the year-end lists of international critics, and elsewhere...

In the New York Times, their best-of-the-year votes for Gidon Kemer’s revelatory account of Bach’s sonatas and partitas, and for the Trio Mediaeval’s “Stella Maris”.

ECM discs figure prominently in the 2005 Top 20 compiled by US magazine Jazz Times, with placings for “Goodbye” by the Bobo Stenson Trio, Keith Jarrett’s “Radiance”, Tord Gustavsen’s “The Ground”, Charles Lloyd’s “Jumping The Creek”, “Trio” by Wasilewski, Kurkiewicz and Miskiewicz, Manu Katché’s “Neighbourhood” and “I Have The Room Above Her” by the Paul Motian Trio.

In Jazziz, another major US jazz monthly, Jarrett’s “Radiance” is #1 choice of the writers, critics and editors, with Tord Gustavsen’s “The Ground” at #5.

VG, Norway’s biggest newspaper recommends in its best-of-the-year selections Tord Gustavsen’s “The Ground”, J.S. Bach’s “Sonatas and Partitas for Violin Solo” as played by Gidon Kremer, Christian Wallumrød’s “A Year From Easter”, and “Senderos” by Dino Saluzzi with Jon Christensen.

The Christian Wallumrød disc is also a ‘best jazz album of 2005’ selection in Norwegian daily Aftenposten and is, furthermore, on the BBC Late Junction List and amongst the Reviewers Picks of Time Out in the UK.

In France and Italy Enrico Rava’s “Tati”, featuring Paul Motian and Stefano Bollani, was awarded Disque d’émoi de l’année Jazz Magazine, Choc Jazzman de l’année, and Meilleur disque de l’année/Grand prix de l’Académie du Jazz. "Tati" was also voted Jazz album of the year in Italy's "Musica Jazz".

In Holland, the magazine Jazz has best-of-the-year nominations for Gustavsen’s “The Ground” and Katché’s “Neighbourhood”, and the same two discs appear in the Jazz Albums of the Year listing of British rock magazine Mojo.

Paul Motian’s “I Have The Room Above Her” is amongst the Best Albums of 2005 of UK magazine Echoes.
