Kurtág's 80th birthday celebrated in Budapest

From February 15 to 19 the Budapest Music Center presents: „KURTÁG 80“ a five day birthday festival dedicated to the great Hungarian composer.

This celebration includes many concerts, amongst them several premieres, as well as films, talks and more.

Highlights include a performance of the „Kafka Fragmente“ by Juliane Banse and András Keller. The New Series recording of the Banse/Keller interpretation of this major work will be issued simultaneously by ECM.

The festival opens with a performance of „Zwiegespräch“, co-composed by Kurtág and his son, performed by the Keller Quartett plus György Kurtág jr. on synthesizer, and closes with an evening of orchestral and choral music. Zoltán Kocsis conducts the National Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hungarian National Choir in performances of works including the „Messages“ op. 34. For full details: www.bmc.hu.
