Hilliards sing Gombert – new cd and release concert
The Hilliard Ensemble, currently playing music of Nicolas Gombert in the United States, celebrate the release of their ECM album of his "Missa Media Vita In Morte Sumus" with a special concert in the label’s home town. They play at the Allerheiligenhofkirche, Munich, on February 17th (tickets available here).
Gombert (c1495- c1566) was one of the masters of Flemish polyphony, whose output includes motets, masses, and several sets of the "Magnificat". His sophisticated counterpoint inclines to dense textures and dark tone colours. In performing Gombert, the Hilliard swells to sextet-size with the addition of tenor singer Andreas Hirtreiter and bass Robert Macdonald.
After Munich, the ensemble’s touring schedule continues unabated, with concerts in Italy, Switzerland, the UK, Portugal, Spain, Austria as well as many more dates in Germany in 2006. For full details consult our tour pages.
