Musik im Riesen

The third Musik im Riesen chamber music festival takes place at the Swarovski Kristallwelten in Wattens, in Austrian Tyrol, from May 3 to May 7, once again under the artist direction of Thomas Larcher.

In this unorthodox subterranean setting, the ‘Crystal Worlds’ designed by André Heller - described by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as “a place of pilgrimage for amazement” – performing artists will include Dino Saluzzi, the Rosamunde Quartet, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Emmanuel Pahud, Ernst Kovacic, Christian Altenburger and others.

Full details are available at www.swarovski.com/kristallwelten.

On May 3, Ernst Kovacic (heard on Werner Pirchner’s "EU", ECM 1314) plays Pirchner, Ligeti and Prokofiev, together with fellow violinist Christian Altenburger, and Turkish writer Emine Sevgi Özdamar reads from her work. On May 4 the Australian Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Richard Tognetti, with Emmanuel Pahud as soloist, present a very wide ranging programme that touches on Holliger, Takemitsu, Pirchner, Brett Dean, Vivaldi, Beethoven, and Bach.

On May 5, the Rosamunde Quartet perform Thomas Larcher’s string quartets “Cold farmer” and “Ixxu” - both of which are featured on Larcher’ s forthcoming New Series disc – “Ixxu” is the title track - scheduled for Autumn release...as well as Schubert’s G Major quartet.
This concert also marks the debut of the new Rosamunde line-up. Diane Pascal recently replaced Simon Fordham in the quartet. The American-born Pascal was previously with the Lark Quartet and appeared frequently with the Camerata Salzburg under Sándor Végh.

On May 6, Argentinean Bandoneon master Dino Saluzzi joins the Rosamunde players or a performance of their popular "Kultrum" project, based on Saluzzi's compositions.

On May 7, Christine Schäfer (soprano), Matthias Goerne (baritone) and Eric Schneider (piano) collaborate in a programme with music of Alban Berg, George Crumb and Robert Schumann.
