ECM dominates German Jazz Charts

In the newest Jazz Top 30 published by music business magazine MusikMarkt, ECM claims no less than six places.

Anouar Brahem’s "Le Voyage de Sahar" leaps to Number 2, where it is wedged in between albums by Cassandra Wilson and Diana Reeves.

In the wake of a successful solo tour by guitarist Ralph Towner, his new album "Time Line" crashes into the chart at Number 4.

Charles Lloyd’s live "Sangam" album, featuring tabla genius Zakir Hussain, enters the chart at Number 15.

At Number 20 is Manu Katché’s "Neighbourhood", with Stanko, Garbarek and company, a recording already in the charts for more than three months.

"The Source" by the band of the same name – with Trygve Seim, Øyvind Brække, Per Oddvar Johansen, Mats Eilertsen – enters at Number 24, a rather sensational showing for a group that is essentially a free jazz collective inspired by Ornette Coleman and Edward Vesala.

And at Number 28 is Terje Rypdal with his Miles Davis-inspired "Vossabrygg".

Congratulations to all the musicians – and to Germany’s discerning record buyers.
