ECM at the Jazz Festivals

The autumn’s jazz festivals present a number ECM musicians, with Tomasz Stanko, Nik Bärtsch, Enrico Rava, Stefano Bollani, and Bobo Stenson featuring prominently...

Enjoy Jazz Festival
The 8th International Enjoy Jazz Festival, held over six weeks in Heidelberg, Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, Germany, has been underway since the beginning of October. On October 8th, Manfred Eicher took part in a panel discussion in Heidelberg on the subject of music and sound, together with journalists Thomas Steinfeld and Wolfgang Sandner. ECM artists still to appear in the weeks ahead include Louis Sclavis with his Big Napoli project (October 15), Susanne Abbuehl (November 5), Tomasz Stanko Quartet (November 6), Vladimír Godár/Iva Bittová (November 8, European premiere of the song cycle “Mater”), François Couturier’s “Song For Tarkovsky”quartet (November 9), Nik Bärtsch’s Ronin (November 9). ECM musicians in Berlin...
JazzFest Berlin this year includes the Polish trio of Marcin Wasilewski, Slawomir Kurkiewicz and Michal Miskiewicz (November 1), the Swiss ‘Zen-funk’ of Nik Bärtsch’s Ronin (November 4), and Norwegian saxophonist Trygve Seim’s ensemble (www.berlinerfestspiele.de).

... and in Zürich
Local hero Nik Bärtsch opens the (JazzNoJazz Festival)on November 1. Manu Katché’s Tendances follows on the November 2. Bobo Stenson makes three appearances: with his Trio (November 2), as solo pianist (November 3) and in duo with Tomasz Stanko (November 4). Marilyn Mazur is also appearing on November 4. London Jazz Festival
The sprawling London Jazz Festival with well over 100 concerts in ten days at diverse locations features a number of ECM-related highlights. Amongst them Nik Bärtsch’s Ronin, Martin Speake (November 10), Ralph Towner with Oregon (November 12), Evan Parker’s Electro-Acoustic Ensemble (November 17), Dave Holland, Savina Yannatou (November 18). Stanko’s festival in Poland
Tomasz Stanko is once again, artistic director of the jazz festival in Bielsko-Biala, Poland, which begins at the end of November. A number of ECM musicians join him in the programme, which includes Enrico Rava/Stefano Bollani and Nik Bärtsch’s Ronin (November 30), the Jack DeJohnette Trio with Foday Musa Suso and Jerome Harris, plus Gary Peacock/Tomasz Stanko/Marcin Wasilewski (December 1), and finally Savina Yannatou with Primavera en Salonico, and the Stanko Quartet (December 2).
