ECM’s Munich concerts

Concert activities for the autumn of 2007 include a series of events in ECM’s Munich hometown - primarily at the Allerheiligen Hofkirche der Residenz. This ‘Court Church of All Saints’, built by Leon von Klenze in the early 19th century is an unusual, high-ceilinged acoustic space that favours intimate music, and chamber music both improvised and composed.

‘Stille Musik’ (silent music) is the title of a concert on September 19, dedicated to the music of Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov, which is both a 70th birthday celebration and a launch concert for the new album, ‘Bagatellen und Serenaden’. Performers include pianist Alexei Lubimov, the Rosamunde Quartett, and the Munich Chamber Orchestra under Alexander Liebreich.

On October 25, Argentinian bandoneonist Dino Saluzzi and German cellist Anja Lechner perform music from their critically-heralded duo album ‘Ojos Negros’. (It’s been a big year for Saluzzi/ Lechner, with much touring in North and South America as well as Europe).

On November 3, the Norwegian-Swedish Trio Mediaeval give the German concert premiere of their “Folk Songs” programme, in which they are joined by percussionist Birger Mistereggen.

On November 6 an interesting triple bill comes to town, featuring the Christian Wallumrød Ensemble (sextet version, as on ‘The Zoo Is Far’), Nik Bärtsch’s Mobile and Bazar Blå - an alliance of like-minded young players from Norway, Switzerland and Sweden. The three groups are strikingly different, yet each has been touched in different ways by folk music, ritual music, contemporary composition – including ‘minimalism’ - , ‘free’ and guided improvisation and more.

Tickets for all concerts can be obtained from München Ticket:
or from the Ludwig Beck store:

Also passing through Munich at the end of September is French-African drummer Manu Katché with his new quintet, with Mathias Eick on trumpet, Trygve Seim on saxes, Marcin Wasilewski on piano and Slavomir Kurkiewicz on bass. The Katché band plays music from Manu’s new album ‘Playground’ at the Muffathalle on September 30.
