Mathias Eick in Northern Charts

Echoing the success of his countryman Tord Gustavsen in the Far North, trumpeter Mathias Eick has entered the Norwegian pop charts with the first album issued under his own name. Eick’s “The Door”, also featuring Jon Balke, Audun Kleive, Audun Erlien, and Stian Cartensen, in its first week of release shot up to # 17 in the Norwegian Top 20, where it is currently sandwiched between albums by rock bands R.E.M. and Def Leppard.

“The Door” is released in most European territories in mid-May; German and French releases follow next month. US release is in July.

Mathias Eick is currently gearing up for the second leg of Manu Katché’s huge European tour, with a further 40 concerts still to come in 2008, with dates in France, Germany, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, and Bosnia. (Details of the Katché group’s dates can be found on the tour pages).

In July Eick plays two Norwegian festivals with his own band: the Kongsberg Jazz Festival on July 5 and the Canal Street Festival in Arendal on July 25.
