Days of Vinyl

As previously announced, the 2009 jazz season at ECM is launched with the release of “New York Days” by Enrico Rava and “Yesterdays” by the trio of Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette. These recordings are available in a choice of physical formats - as CDs or as double LPs. The LP edition marks the return of ECM vinyl, the first new titles available on LP in 15 years.

ECM established its international reputation in the 1970s with exceptional music, meticulously recorded and produced, pressed on the best available vinyl. “The most beautiful sound next to silence” an early label leitmotif, was popularly understood to address all these aspects.

A groundswell of renewed interest in the analog medium has made it possible to issue selected titles on vinyl once more, and the Rava and Jarrett albums mark a new beginning. They are issued as audiophile-quality 180-gram double-albums, with radiant and warm sound transferred from original masters.

Throughout the year we plan to add more LPs – both new titles and older albums newly pressed in audiophile editions. The first of the latter is already available – “1961” by the Jimmy Giuffre 3, with Paul Bley and Steve Swallow.

To recap, there are now three double albums in ECM audiophile 180-gram vinyl editions. Please click the links below to read more:

Enrico Rava: “New York Days”. Enrico Rava (trumpet), Stefano Bollani (piano), Mark Turner (tenor saxophone), Larry Grenadier (double-bass), Paul Motian (drums).
