Awards and nominations

ECM’s recordings have been collecting a number of prizes and distinctions recently.
Keith Jarrett’s Sleeper is International Album of the Year 2012 at Italy’s Musica Jazz (the previously unreleased recording from three decades ago trumping all contemporary offerings). 'Sleeper' also received an album of the year award (Choc de l’année) from France’s Jazz Magazine and is #1 in UK magazine Jazzwise’s end-of-the-year critics poll in the category Archive & Reissues. The quartet with Jarrett, Jan Garbarek, Palle Danielsson and Jon Christensen toured infrequently and was relatively-short-lived, but it has certainly left its mark on jazz history. Rare documentary footage of the group in Norway in 1974 can currently be seen in the in the widely-praised exhibition ECM – A Cultural Archaeology at Munich’s Haus der Kunst (until February 10, 2013).

Other awards: Year of the Snake, the second ECM album by the Fly trio of Mark Turner, Larry Grenadier and Jeff Ballard also receives the Choc de l’année Jazzmag.

Arvo Pärt’s Adam’s Lamemt is an album-of-the-year choice in French magazine Classica.

And there are two Gramnmy nominations for two of the outstanding artists of ECM New Series: András Schiff for Das Wohltemperierte Clavier, and Kim Kashkashian for her album of Music for Viola by Kurtág and Ligeti.

Finally, Levon Eskenian’s Yerevan-based Gurdjieff Folk Instruments Ensemble has won Holland’s Edison Jazz/World Award 2012 for its ECM debut, Music of Georges I. Gurdjieff.
