GLASGOW FESTIVAL CELEBRATES EVAN PARKER

Following on from his successful appearances in Munich at the Unforeseen Symposium, where he co-led a large group with Roscoe Mitchell, Evan Parker heads for Glasgow where the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) is presenting, from November 3rd to 6th, a festival devoted exclusively to Parker’s Electro-Acoustic Ensemble and its splinter groups and sub-groups. The festival, titled Free RadiCCAls 2004, focuses on the Ensemble’s exploration of “the musical possibilities that arise from the combination of real time composition or improvisation by combining acoustic instruments with live processing and sampling technologies.”

The cast includes: Evan Parker, soprano and tenor saxophones; Paul Lytton, drums, percussion, live electronics; Philipp Wachsmann, violin, viola, live electronics; Agustí Fernandez, piano; Adam Linson, bass and electronics; Joel Ryan, electronics and sampling; Lawrence Casserley, signal processing instrument, percussion; Walter Prati, interactive computers; Marco Vecchi, sound projection, and Kjell Bjorgeengen, interactive video. The Electro-Acoustic Ensemble will be joined by the electronic performance duo FURT, comprised of composers Richard Barrett and Paul Obermayer.

On November 3, 4 and 5 the musicians will play in diverse groupings. On November 6th, there are two concerts, the first with the Scottish premiere of “Memory/Vision”, the second the world premiere of a new piece written by Parker for the entire cast. Once again, ECM will be on hand to record the proceedings.
