FILM ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATIONS FOR KARAINDROU, ANGELOPOULOS; GODARD, GANZ

The European Film Academy has nominated Eleni Karaindrou in the category Composer of the Year 2004 in the upcoming European Film Awards. The nomination is on the basis of her music for Theo Angelopoulos’ film “The Weeping Meadow”. Angelopoulos has also received a nomination as Best European Director.

Jean-Luc Godard, meanwhile, is nominated in the category Best European Screenwriter for “Notre Musique” (a film whose soundtrack is comprised almost entirely of ECM recordings). A fourth ECM associate, Bruno Ganz, is nominated as Best European Actor for his acclaimed and controversial performance in “Der Untergang”.

Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on 11th December in Barcelona, a TV broadcast of which will be shown throughout Europe.

Founded in 1989, the European Film Academy (EFA) currently unites 1,600 European film professionals with the common aim of promoting European film culture. The current director of the Academy is Wim Wenders. Throughout the year, the EFA initiates and participates in a series of activities dealing with film politics as well as economic, artistic, and training aspects. The programme includes conferences, seminars and workshops, and a common goal is to build a bridge between creativity and the industry. These activities culminate in the annual presentation of the European Film Awards.
