At last: Jarrett solo!

“Radiance” is Keith Jarrett’s first album of solo piano improvisations in a decade, and the latest instalment in a tradition that includes such landmark recordings as “The Köln Concert”, “Sun Bear Concerts” and “La Scala”. Recorded live in Osaka and Tokyo in October 2002, the material is developed into an improvised suite that roves many moods.

The album is released on May 2 in time for Keith Jarrett’s 60th birthday later that week. Place your orders now at the webshop for immediate dispatch, or head to the nearest record store.

The Ian Carr/Mike Dibb documentary “Keith Jarrett: The Art of Improvisation” is also being screened in many world territories in early May, including ARTE in France/Germany on May 14th.

With extensive archive footage of Jarrett in performance with groups ranging from the Charles Lloyd Quartet and Miles Davis’ electric band to today’s “Standards Trio” with Jack DeJohnette and Gary Peacock, the documentary also includes extensive interviews with Jarrett himself and commentary from long-time associates including ECM producer Manfred Eicher.

Later this year, ECM will issue a DVD video of Jarrett’s 150th Japanese performance, comprising the complete Tokyo concert from October 2002. This will be the first DVD in the ECM catalogue. Japan has always been especially receptive to Jarrett’s music and the focused attention of the audience at the Metropolitan Festival Concert Hall spurs the pianist to improvisational heights.
