ECM is pleased to announce the release of an extraordinary new album by Arvo Pärt. It features world-premiere recordings of “Da Pacem Domine” by the Hilliard Ensemble joined on this occasion by soprano singer Sarah Leonhard, and “Lamentate”, an immensely powerful composition for piano and orchestra featuring Alexei Lubimov and the SWR Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, conducted by Andrey Boreyko. The title piece was commissioned by London’s Tate Modern and inspired by Anish Kapoor’s massive sculpture “Marsyas”.
“Lamentate” is the 11th Pärt album on ECM New Series, the label originally launched as a platform for Pärt’s “Tabula Rasa” in 1984. Since then, Pärt’s new compositions have consistently been premiered on the label. The album is released to coincide with the great Estonian composer’s 70th birthday on September 11.
