Manu Katché: New album and ECM event in Paris

“Neighbourhood” is the title of Manu Katché’s first album as a leader for ECM, a special project with a line-up chosen by producer Manfred Eicher and featuring Jan Garbarek on saxophones, Tomasz Stanko on trumpet, Marcin Wasilewski on piano and Slavomir Kurkiewicz on double-bass, in a programme of new music by Katché.

The French-African drummer has been associated with Jan Garbarek for almost 20 years, first appearing with him at La Cigale, Paris on the occasion of ECM’s 20th anniversary celebration in 1999, and subsequently playing on several Garbarek discs including “Twelve Moons”, “Visible World”, “Ragas and Sagas” and last year’s widely acclaimed “In Praise Of Dreams”. La Cigale is also the site of a special ECM event on October 4 which will launch “Neighbourhood” with the full album line-up, and also feature a performance by the duo of Anja Lechner and Vassilis Tsabropoulos, playing music of Gurdjieff and music based on Byzantine hymns from the album “Chants, Hymns and Dances”. The concert starts at 19:30. Tickets are available via FNAC. Visit their website: www.fnac.com.
